With those fatal words
issuing forth from my mouth, I quickly learned the merits of a
high fiber (fabric) diet and things have never been the same since.
I tried log cabins, nine patches, stars and drunkards path (ever
wonder where that name came from). I cut, sewed and quilted everything
that crossed my path. "If it doesn't move, Quilt It!!"
was my motto. I did pot holders, place mats, vest, jackets, baby
quilts, bed quilts, dog quilts, cat quilts, table runners and
toilet covers. My husband was more than thrilled to be in the
military and therefore spared from wearing my creation. (I did
consider patchwork underwear but that was rejected due to chafing).
I always was pleased with what I made but felt that if changing it a little here or there would be better that the original. I was always been intrigued by colors and the fabrics let me express my personal creativity in design and color choice. Starting out very subdued but over the years I developed a sort unique style. I used to apologize for using bright and wild colors but I'm long past that now. I equally love the look of the 30's fabric with its riot of color and pattern. Another hang-up of mine is whimsy. Put these all together and you have what my mother called "Flash and Trash" and without apology I might add.
After years of teaching I started to write my own quilt pattern. That is a simple sentence but it encompassed a whole lot of struggle and time. I started out simple and learned a lot as I wrote (to include using the computer). I want to share easy ways to accomplish seemingly complicated tasks without sacrificing quality workmanship. What started out as a few simple words and a couple of drawing has now become a business called judydidit designs.
I hope you enjoy these patterns.
